Born in Mt Allan in 1967, Gabriella Possum Nungarrayi is a talented Aboriginal artist from the Central Desert. Coming from the Napperby Station Community in Alice Springs, the eldest daughter of the well-renowned artist Clifford Possum, Gabriella started painting at a young age. Clifford Possum Tjapaltjarri, whose works are represented in major galleries and private collections world wide, has had a great influence on Gabriella’s development, and he has passed on his skills to all of his daughters whose paintings reflect his unique style.
Gabriella's artistic skill was first rewarded in 1983 when she gained an award in the prestigious Alice Springs Art Prize while still a student at Yirara College. Her work has been praised as being "innovative" and "culturally significant". Gabriella uses modern materials (acrylic paints on canvas) to create traditional designs. Her colours are inspired by the dramatic contrast in the colour of the Central Desert landscape. Gabriella's Dreamings include Women's ceremonies, Milky Way, Bush Tucker, Goanna and Serpent Dreamings which have been handed down through generations of ancestors.
In 1987 Gabriella exhibited in Brisbane with her father Clifford Possum Tjapaltjarri, sister Michelle Possum and brother – law Heath.
